The EU's new legislation on pesticides could soon be in place. Next week in Strasbourg MEPs will vote on two reports endorsing the final shape of the legislation as agreed in negotiations with the Council in December. The legislation will increase the number of pesticide products available in Member States while in due course banning the use of certain dangerous chemicals in these products. Measures to ensure the safer use of pesticides in daily life will also be introduced.
On December 17 the office of the project was visited by representative of the European Commission Dmytro Korbut. Also, Dmytro Korbut had a meeting with representatives of Sokal' rayon administration and visited a liquidated store-house of pesticides in the village of Boriatyn (Ostriv village council) of Sokal' rayon
The Environment Committee voted on november 11 on new legislation governing the production, licensing and use of pesticides. MEPs confirmed that certain toxic chemicals will be banned, except where there is a serious danger to plant health.
Household pesticides may cause some of the intellectual development problems in children previously associated with lead, an Australian toxicologist says.
